Say cheese!

On Saturday I decided to bake a cheesecake.  I’ve never made one before so why not?

Here’s what you’ll need, for those playing along at home.

250g plain sweet biscuit crumbs
125 g butter, melted

3 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup caster sugar
750g cream cheese, softened
3 teaspoons grated lemon rind
1/4 cup lemon juice

Preheat oven to 160C.

Lightly grease a 22cm springform tin. Mix biscuits crumbs and melted butter together in a bowl and using a glass, press into bottom and up sides of tin. Refrigerate for one hour.

Beat eggs and sugar in a bowl with an electric mixture until thick and pale (about 10 minutes). The more you beat them, the lighter the cheesecake will be.

Cheesecake 06

Add cream cheese, lemon rind and juice to eggs and beat until smooth and creamy (about 5 minutes).

Cheesecake 08

Pour mixture into prepared based and bake for about 45 minutes.

Cheesecake 09

Allow to cool in oven with door open, then refrigerate for several hours, or overnight if possible.

Slice and enjoy. Decorate with cream and strawberries if you have them.

Shoe Challenge 2

I managed to save another four pairs of shoes this week, so I’m doing really well so far.  Eight down, 86 to go.

Save 120319
Wittner black patent heels; Jane Lamerton dress

Saved 120320
Diana Ferrari brown peep toes; Jane Lamerton dress

Saved 120322
Steve Madden red wedge peep toes; Jane Lamerton dress

Saved 120324
Orbit pink flats; jeans from who knows where.

And next week when I am not so lazy, I will make a collage photo rather than posting them individually.

At the same time as doing the shoe challenge, I am also doing the wardrobe challenge.  Same principle: save your clothes by wearing them at least once in a year, or lose them. Hence the dresses in the photos above.

Because I am so clever, I also foolishly bought three more dresses this week. Like I don’t have enough to try and save in the next year. I’ll show you those as I wear them.

In other news, I finally got the KitchenAid Stand Mixer that I have been drooling over for years. I had enough points on my credit cards to get one for free!

I am extremely thrilled. I baked cupcakes this afternoon, just to test it out. Very pleased with the result.

My newest toys

In case you haven’t guessed by now, I am a bit of a tech-head.  I love technology and gadgets and anything new and cool 🙂  Which is why I have a mac (actually two) of course.

Anyhow, today I have two new toys to show you.  This is my magnificent new Kindle:

And these are my new headphones from Bose:

Bose Headphones

There is a good reason for me getting both these toys.  We are going to China and Russia and three of the ‘Stans in April and we’ll be away for a whole month.  We’re travelling by train and that’s a whole lot of reading time for me.  Our last holiday was only eight days and I managed to read six books.  You do the maths.  This is going to save me a lot of space and weight in my luggage.

The headphones are noise-cancelling beasts which are far more comfortable on your ears than the earbuds you usually get with an iPod.  I can use those for about an hour and then my ears start to hurt.  These are going to be MUCH more comfortable for long trips.

The man is here right now installing the new dishwasher. He tells me that the one we have bought is the quietest on the market which is brilliant (although you wouldn’t think so to hear the drill right now).

Today was a very quiet day at work. I had to come home early for the dishwasher man so that was just as well!

Huffle is a bit nervous of the man and ran outside when I got home. She’ll come back when it’s dinner time. Salvador was waiting at the front door for me when I got home. He thinks it’s dinner time from about 3pm each day but I am not in charge of feeding the cats – that’s the boy’s job.

Speaking of Salvador, here’s a picture of him. He’s a tortoiseshell tabby cat, about 13 years old. He’s a grumpy old man! He spends all his days plotting to kill Huffle and begging for food.

8 days to the new car!

New washing machine

It’s very exciting – my new washing machine (and the boy’s new dishwasher) arrived today! I am doing a load of towels right now to test it out. Our old machine was misbehaving and not washing very well, and no matter how we adjusted the legs it always tried to make a break for freedom during the spin cycle. But no more! The new super-duper Bosch mega washer (I think it’s called the Euromaxx Lifestyle or something) is brilliant!

Now if I could just get my new car I’d be a happy camper. But on the plus side, it will be ready on the 4th of March so that’s not too long to wait.

Last night we saw an average game of cricket. Australia won, which is always a good thing in my opinion, but none of our top order batsmen were particularly inspiring, except for Pup Clarke and then Mr Cricket later. The bowlers did extremely well though. We got very wet coming home.
